Ideas for a great start in that new role
We are now looking at preparing yourself for your first day in your new role and there is nothing like making a good first impression.
Our first day might be virtual or face to face but whichever, it is important to turn up on time, dressed appropriately for the culture of the organisation and if virtual that you have a professional background.
Having done our research we need to have thought about what we need to know and what we want to know – often 2 different things.
Asking the question about what we want to know may be a matter of timing and you will soon get to understand how things work in your new organisation and how to position some of these more probing questions.
In building relationships, communications are everything but remember we communicate in many different ways and tone of voice and body language are very important.
It may be a cliché but remember to listen, ask for clarification if you are not sure, summarise back if you want to check your understanding and remember that often the person you are meeting is ‘nervous’ because this relationship is new for them too.
